How to negotiate the best deal of 2017 Lexus NX 200T! (price, process, Pohanka dealer, tips, etc)

We bought the 2017 Lexus NX 200T at Pohanka Lexus at the end of August 2017. The process was quick—4 hours in total at the dealer. I was a little afraid before I walked into the store. I never negotiated the price for a new car. I drove my husband’s 2nd hand car in the past year. The whole purchasing process wasn’t so bad as I thought. Although we didn’t get the best price, we bought at a fair price with decent features/options. The final price of the car is $6,000 lower the MSRP price. I know if I wait for several more weeks, I can get $500 cheaper. However, I don’t want to waste my time on it. My baby will be due in 3 months, and I need a safe car for him. Bill Gates won’t spend hours/months in negotiating a price that will be hundred dollars cheaper, right?

Before I purchased this car, I had a car accident driving Mike’s Prius on the road 66. I was scared to death at that moment. When I changed lane, I turned too fast and scratched some paintwork of the BMW in front of me. The BMW wasn’t moving at that time. Thank god the driver was good-tempered.

Both of our parents suggested us to buy a new car. After I made up my mind, I did some price consulting over the internet for two weeks. Through email quote, I found out their bottom price; I decided to go to the nearest dealer to seal the deal.

These days dealers are also very smart. Pohanka Lexus has a policy that they won’t quote the price online. I told my sales rep that I already got a quote from another dealer and asked them whether they could match it. They wanted to see the quote, but I told them that I left it at home and couldn’t show them right now. (This is important. ) At first, I just want to buy a Front Wheel Car, but they didn’t have that in stock. Then we just want to know what is the best deal of All Wheel Car they can provide us. The manager came to us and gave us the price range he could accept. I told them my ideal price for the car. Then he asked Daniel my sales rep to show me the car and think about it. (My sales rep just started his job less than a month. He was a bartender before. It is just so important to have a great personality to be a sales rep in this field although you know little about your the car.) Overall, after he showed us the car, we are pretty satisfied with the tone, interior design, options, driving experience and size of it. So we bought it the next day.

All in all, tips in mind to seal the deal quickly:
(1) Consult the online price from different dealer first for the model you like
(2) Find out the bottom price of the car
(3) Let them know you are a serious buyer
(4) Don’t show your love for the car
(5) Use cash for the payment
(6) Come at the end of the month (August, September)
(7) Leave the dealer after manager gave you his bottom price

I like your style. It’s now mid-late December 2017 and there are a few 2017 models kicking around. While I was actually looking at the Honda CR-V, there are surprisingly few discounts on it at all. The Lexus NX 200t is almost unchanged from 2017 to 2018 as far as I can tell.

Without any effort you could get the $2,500 Lexus rebate. Take off another 10 to 15% year old model depreciation as a discount and I think that a dealer who has excess inventory would likely drop the price (all in before taxes on a mid range car to close to the price of an upper trim Honda.
